NEW DELHI, Oct 27: In a shocking case in Delhi, a young woman allegedly used her forensic science knowledge not for academic purposes, but to plan the brutal death of her live-in partner. The UPSC aspirant, who was in a relationship with the accused, was murdered in the early hours of October 6.
The 21-year-old woman had recently discovered that her partner had recorded private videos of her and stored them on a hard disk. Angered by his refusal to delete them, the “trapped and angry” woman reportedly sought the help of her ex-boyfriend to plan the murder.
To execute the plan, the woman involved her ex-boyfriend and another associate. She had been in a relationship with the victim since May and was a BSc forensic science student from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. Using her knowledge of forensics, she allegedly plotted the murder, while her ex-boyfriend, skilled in handling gas cylinders, helped manipulate one to stage the incident as an accidental fire.
A police officer explained, “On the night of October 5, the trio visited the victim’s flat, where they allegedly strangled and beat him to death before pouring oil and alcohol over the body. The ex-boyfriend, who works as an LPG gas distributor in Moradabad, then set up the scene for a fire.” Authorities also stated that ghee was poured over the victim after his death. The incident occurred in Gandhi Vihar, Timarpur.
According to investigators, the woman not only had strong forensic knowledge but also a keen interest in crime shows. Her ex-boyfriend applied his expertise to manipulate the cylinder at the victim’s residence. “They opened the regulator and ignited the fire using a lighter, leaving the cylinder near the victim’s head,” the officer said. “About an hour later, the cylinder exploded, and the body was completely charred.”
The woman and the victim had met in May and entered into a live-in relationship in Delhi. During this time, the victim reportedly recorded private videos of the woman and stored them on a hard disk. When she discovered this and asked him to delete the files, he refused and allegedly fabricated stories to humiliate her. Feeling trapped and enraged, she reportedly turned to her ex-boyfriend, who then helped plot the act of revenge.
Police confirmed that the woman had initially pursued a forensic science course before later switching to a computer science course. Authorities stated that she knew how to mislead investigators and carefully planned the fire to destroy evidence.
Initially, the victim’s death appeared to be an accidental fire. However, police suspicions grew after reviewing CCTV footage from the area, which showed two people entering the building before the fire and a woman leaving shortly before the incident. She was later identified as the victim’s live-in partner.
The accused were traced through call detail records and technical surveillance. The woman was arrested on October 18, her ex-boyfriend on October 21, and another associate on October 23. Authorities recovered the hard disk containing the alleged private videos, a trolley bag, the victim’s shirt, and mobile phones used in the crime.
