KUWAIT CITY, June 30: The Personal Status Court presided over by Judge Mohammad Al-Jasmi stripped a woman of her daughter’s custody due to her marriage to another man who should not be in custody of the girl. The court has thereby transferred custody of the daughter to her father. The woman has also been denied the right to receive alimony from the date of handing over the daughter. According to the case filed by the counsel to the father Attorney Jarrah Al-Shuraikah, his client was legally married to the defendant and they have a daughter. His client later divorced the woman after which she remarried another man. However, this makes it improper for the woman to have custody of their only daughter.

Jail suspended: The Appeals Bench of the Misdemeanor Court recently overturned the verdict of the lower court which had sentenced the Kuwaiti actress Haya Al-Shuaybi to six months imprisonment and ordered to pay KD 1,000 to suspend the sentence, reports Al-Rai daily. Haya was dragged to the court by the Kuwaiti actor Tareq Al-ali following a lawsuit filed by him accusing the actress and her husband of abusing him in TV programs and on the social media sites. The court has also acquitted her husband.

Jail for blogger: The Criminal Court chaired by Judge Nayef Al-Dahoum sentenced the captain of a civil aircraft to six months in prison for posting tweets deemed offensive to Muawiyah bin Abi- Sufyan (RA). The accused was fined KD 500 to suspend execution of sentence. Public Prosecution charged the suspect for publicly offending the plaintiff via tweets he posted on his personal account on Twitter which degraded religious doctrine and offended a companion of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), as confirmed by investigators; thus the prosecution insisted that necessary punishment was issued against him, according Article III of the Penal Code.
