KUWAIT CITY, Dec 1: The Winter Games Club recently organized the Second Kuwait National Short-Track Speed Skating Championship, featuring around 20 athletes competing on the club’s ice rink.
The one-day event highlighted the growing potential of Kuwait’s young skating talents. Adeeb Halawa captured the men’s gold medal, Bader Al-Sarraf claimed gold in the youth category, Ahmed Ma’arafi secured first place among juniors, and Saud Salem topped the cadets division.
Club President Fahad Al-Ajmi praised the strong level of competition, describing the races in this Winter Olympic discipline as intense, skillful, and highly entertaining for spectators.
Al-Ajmi noted that the club is committed to hosting such championships to support its athletes and elevate their technical abilities as they prepare to represent Kuwait in future regional and international events. He emphasized that these sporting gatherings play a key role in promoting winter sports among young people, especially children who are eager to explore ice-based activities.
He added that the high evaluations received by many participants from the judges signal promising future performances in international competitions. Al-Ajmi also extended his appreciation to speed skating director Yousef Al-Kandari and the national team’s coaching staff, led by Malaysian coach Mohamed Arif, for their dedicated efforts in advancing the sport.
