KUWAIT CITY, May 30 (KUNA): The Kuwait Winter Games Club (KWGC) announced that the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has renewed its confidence in Kuwait to host the 2027 Ice Hockey World Championship Division IV, scheduled for April.
Speaking to KUNA, KWGC chairman Faheed Al-Ajmi said the decision was taken during the IIHF Annual Congress currently being held in Zurich, Switzerland, with the participation of several federation members, including Kuwait’s representative Meshal Al-Ajmi.
Al-Ajmi noted that the decision was approved by a wide majority, despite the cancellation of the 2026 edition, which had been scheduled for last April due to geopolitical circumstances in the region. He praised the strong support and confidence shown by IIHF members.
He added that the move reflects Kuwait’s strong standing in administrative, organizational, and technical aspects, as well as the success of the 2024 edition hosted in the country.
Al-Ajmi further said that hosting this global championship reaffirms Kuwait’s prominent position in international winter sports and its strong relationship with the IIHF.
He also commended the efforts of the Kuwaiti delegation at the congress, which contributed to securing this renewed hosting approval.
