KUWAIT CITY, Dec 6: Meteorologist Issa Ramadan said that the Al-Murabba’aniyah period, traditionally known for marking the onset of severe winter cold, will begin later than usual this year. Instead of starting on December 6, the period is expected to commence in mid-December, signaling a delayed start to winter in Kuwait.
Ramadan explained that Al-Murabba’aniyah typically lasts for 39 days and ends on January 15, bringing progressively colder weather across the country. The period is traditionally divided into three phases, each lasting about 13 days: Al-Iklil (December 6–18), Al-Qalb (December 19–31), and Al-Shula (January 1–15).
He noted that Al-Murabba’aniyah is usually affected by the Siberian High pressure system, which brings falling temperatures and cold northwesterly winds. However, this year the arrival of the Siberian High will be delayed until mid-December, postponing the expected drop in temperatures.
Ramadan added that Al-Murabba’aniyah itself is split into two stages: the first marked by relatively moderate cold, and the second—beginning around December 28—bringing significantly harsher conditions, with temperatures potentially dropping to freezing levels.
