Why ‘Friday Market’ still remains closed?

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 3: Mystery surrounds the continued closure of the Friday Market which resembles a ‘ghost town’ even after the curfew has been lifted by the concerned authorities and life has returned to normalcy when people were anticipating that the authorities would announce the opening of the market, reports Al- Seyassah daily.

The daily met with a number of visitors who venture in the area in the belief one fine day they will find the market open. Everyone the daily spoke to without exception support the reopening of the ‘Souk Jumah’ while other establishments around the market including the shops selling furniture, electrical appliances, health tools and clothes are the only beneficiaries of the continued closure of the Friday Market.

One of the consumers said he and his family depended much on the Friday Market to purchase clothes, while some others said the Friday Market is the best place for medium wage people to buy their needs. However, a Kuwaiti who runs a business at the Friday Market said the Kuwaiti Municipality in cooperation with the Ministry is set to declare open the market either Thursday.

Deputy General Director of the company in the Friday Market Waleed Al Kandari said that there are arrangements between Kuwait Municipality and Ministry of Interior to organize opening of the market which will be opened on Thursday 10th Sept or 17th Sept He wished that all parties will get the benefit of opening the market.
