TEHRAN, Jul 27: Iranian state media have republished previously released photographs of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei as questions continue to grow over his prolonged absence from public appearances.
The images, described by state media as “rarely seen” photos, show Mojtaba Khamenei attending Friday prayers led by his father, the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, on October 4, 2024.
The republication of the 2024 photographs comes months after Ali Khamenei was reportedly killed in a February 28 airstrike, with Mojtaba Khamenei remaining out of public view since the reported incident.
The lack of recent public appearances by Mojtaba Khamenei has fueled speculation over his status and role within Iran’s leadership structure. Iranian authorities have not released recent images or provided detailed information about his activities.
Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the former supreme leader, has long been considered an influential figure within Iran’s political establishment, although he has held no official government position.
The renewed circulation of older images appears aimed at addressing public attention surrounding his absence as Iran navigates a period of political uncertainty following the reported death of his father.
