KUWAIT CITY, Dec 11: The West Asia Women’s Volleyball Clubs Championship wraps up tomorrow at Salwa Al-Sabah Club Hall, under the patronage of Kuwait’s Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi.
Today’s semifinals feature Al-Fatat Club against Jordan’s Al-Nasr at 3:00 PM, and UAE’s Sharjah Club facing Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ula at 5:00 PM.
In the quarterfinals, Al-Fatat beat Lebanon’s Al-Qalamoun 3-0, Sharjah defeated Al-Fayhaa by the same score, Al-Ula overcame Iraq’s Sanharib 3-2, and Salwa Al-Sabah fell 1-3 to Al-Nasr. The matches were attended by Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governor Sheikh Sabah Badr Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, Volleyball Federation President Dr Jaber Al-Mary, and Salwa Al-Sabah Club President Sheikha Naeema Al-Ahmad, along with heads of all participating delegations.
Sanharib Club official Dawood Raba Dankharis praised the championship’s organisation, saying the committees ensured a smooth and welcoming experience for all teams. “The hospitality and management reflect the excellence Kuwait is known for,” he added.
Hassan Ahmed, head of Al-Qalamoun Club’s delegation, highlighted the high technical level of play, boosted by three professional players, noting that matches were competitive and thrilling until the final set. He thanked Sheikha Naeema Al-Ahmad for facilitating participation for the maximum number of clubs.
Fawaz Al-Mutairi, Director of Sports at Al-Fayhaa Club, welcomed the tournament’s launch as a major step in developing women’s volleyball and expressed hope for its continued growth.
Dr. Hadeel Abu Bakr of the Palestinian Jerusalem Club praised Sheikha Naeema Al-Ahmad for ensuring the club’s participation, saying, “We are proud to be here among our community in Kuwait.”
Sharjah Club official Anoud Al-Muhairi said the championship achieved “the highest level of success both administratively and technically,” noting the participation of 12 clubs from West Asia reflects the dedication to promoting women’s volleyball. She also highlighted the continuous development of the sport in GCC countries, supported by regional leaders.
