DOHA, Oct 30(KUNA): The second edition of the West Asia Archery Championship began recently at the Lusail Shooting Complex in Doha, Qatar, and will run until November 3. The tournament features around 100 archers representing nine countries, including Kuwait, competing for top honors.
The championship includes contests in the Olympic recurve and compound bow categories across individual, team, and mixed team events. The opening day was dedicated to official training, followed by qualifying rounds on the second day.
Friday’s schedule features elimination rounds in the team and mixed team categories, with the individual eliminations to be held tomorrow. The competition will conclude on Monday with the finals for all categories, after which the winners will be crowned.
Obeid Al-Asimi, Secretary-General of the Kuwaiti and Arab Shooting Federations, expressed his delight at Kuwait’s participation, noting that such tournaments play a vital role in enhancing athletes’ technical and competitive levels.
He also extended his thanks and appreciation to the Qatar Shooting Federation for organizing the event, wishing all participants success and hoping the Kuwaiti archers achieve strong results that bring pride to their country.
The nine participating nations are Qatar (host), Kuwait, the UAE, Palestine, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Yemen, and Syria.
