ISTANBUL, Aug 6: Mohamed Salah’s move to Turkish club Trabzonspor after ending his remarkable spell with Liverpool has sparked plenty of debate among fans and football observers. Some critics believe the destination does not reflect the status of a player who has established himself among the world’s best, arguing that the club is not among Europe’s traditional giants. However, many have overlooked a key factor behind the decision — the significant financial package offered by the Turkish side.
In my view, Salah’s choice is both understandable and carefully considered. A reported annual salary of more than €17 million provides valuable financial security for the Egyptian star and his family, particularly as he enters the later stages of his career at the age of 34. At this point, career decisions are not measured solely by sporting ambition, but also by stability, long-term planning, and personal priorities.
Beyond football, Trabzon offers a different lifestyle. The Turkish city is renowned for its natural beauty, peaceful surroundings, and comfortable living conditions, factors that may have played a role in Salah’s decision.
From a sporting perspective, Trabzonspor deserves more respect than some critics have given it. The club enjoyed a strong previous season, finishing third in the Turkish league, securing qualification for the Europa League, and lifting the Turkish Cup. With a competitive squad and ambitious goals, the arrival of a global star like Salah would provide a significant boost both on the pitch and commercially.
Ultimately, Mohamed Salah has earned the right to choose the next chapter of his career. After years of remarkable achievements at the highest level, he is the person best placed to decide what suits him and his family at this stage.
Turkey welcomes you, Salah.
