KUWAIT CITY, Jan 15: In a precedent-setting ruling, the Court of First Instance demanded that Wataniya Airways pay compensation to three passengers after they filed a lawsuit against the company for causing delay and cancelling their scheduled trip to Istanbul, reports Al-Rai daily.
The court ordered the company to pay each passenger an equivalent 271.825 dinars in gold – the value at the time the verdict was issued. The ruling was based on the text of the Convention for the Unification of Air Transport Rules, signed in Montreal on May 28, 1999, by Kuwait, which specifies the compensation payable to the passenger in the event of delay.
