KUWAIT CITY, Dec 6: Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah affirmed that volunteer work in Kuwait is a deeply rooted tradition and an essential component of the country’s national identity, noting that volunteers continue to play a vital role in serving the nation both locally and abroad.
In a statement to KUNA marking International Volunteer Day, observed annually on December 5, Al-Huwailah said the Ministry seeks to institutionalize volunteer work and develop its mechanisms so that it becomes a strategic pillar aligned with the state’s objectives.
She praised the outstanding efforts of volunteer teams and participants in the national campaign “This Is Your Role,” which concluded last Wednesday, describing them as “hands of construction” who transformed their love for Kuwait into practical field achievements. She said their work reflected strong social cohesion and left a positive, civilized impact across various areas of the country.
Al-Huwailah commended the volunteers’ dedication to environmental protection and the beautification of public facilities, stressing that their efforts demonstrate a high level of awareness and a constant willingness to respond to national duty.
She also expressed sincere appreciation to all sponsors and participants from the public and private sectors, as well as civil society organizations, noting that their active partnership played a key role in the campaign’s success and the achievement of its goals.
The Minister added that the Ministry is committed to developing regulatory frameworks for volunteer work and transforming it into a sustainable, institutionalized practice aligned with Kuwait’s Vision 2035, particularly in the areas of human capital development and community support.
She concluded by extending her thanks to all volunteers in Kuwait, emphasizing that their contributions represent a genuine pillar of social and humanitarian work in the country.
In a related statement, Kuwait Red Crescent Society Secretary-General Fahad Al-Mandeel emphasized that strengthening community participation and adopting policies that support volunteerism are fundamental to expanding humanitarian efforts and strengthening the volunteers’ role in national development.
Speaking to KUNA on the same occasion, Al-Mandeel said International Volunteer Day serves as a message of appreciation to every volunteer and an opportunity for organizations to reinforce their contributions and continue Kuwait’s longstanding legacy of giving.
He highlighted that the occasion honors volunteers who embody the highest values of generosity and humanity, reaffirming Kuwait’s prominent position on the global humanitarian stage. He described volunteers as the foundation of Kuwait’s present and future, noting the remarkable achievements of Kuwaiti volunteers over the past year, driven by commitment and a strong sense of social responsibility.
Al-Mandeel added that the day represents both a moment of pride in the year’s accomplishments and a starting point for broader humanitarian engagement in the coming year, enhancing Kuwait’s regional and international presence.
He stressed that the Kuwait Red Crescent Society continues to play an active role through its volunteers in numerous initiatives inside and outside the country, calling for further promotion of volunteer culture and awareness of humanitarian work as a direct investment in building a strong and cohesive society.
The United Nations General Assembly designated December 5 as International Volunteer Day in 1985 to recognize the contributions of volunteers worldwide and to promote the spirit of volunteerism at local, national and international levels.
