KUWAIT CITY, Jan 15: In a significant development, the Union of Kuwaiti Engineering Offices and Consulting Houses has expressed its endorsement of the decision to allow part-time work for employees in the private sector. The decision, issued by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled, aims to permit part-time employment in the private sector, with the union applauding the efforts to modify the country’s demographic composition.

Engineer Badr Al-Salman, the president of the union, emphasized the importance of the decision, acknowledging the need to address potential misuse. He stated that the union has reached out to the First Deputy to prevent any exploitation of the decision, particularly in legitimizing residency trade practices. Al-Salman noted that engineering and technical workers registered under companies should adhere to the rules and regulations requiring full-time commitment within their respective engineering offices or consulting houses.

Highlighting the importance of maintaining integrity at work and avoiding conflicts of interest, Al-Salman underscored the prohibition of working for other entities in engineering and consulting work roles. He commended the First Deputy’s efforts to regulate the labor market and modify the demographic composition but urged a swift response to formulate regulations for the decision.

Al-Salman urged the involvement of the Union in shaping these regulations by expressing concerns about potential loopholes that could be exploited to the detriment of public funds and in violation of municipal laws, labor regulations, and residency laws. He cautioned against individuals with ulterior motives exploiting the decision to legitimize their trade, allowing workers to work more hours than ostensibly allowed.

Al-Salman concluded by expressing the union’s desire to establish electronic connectivity with the Public Authority for Manpower, seeking to issue a certificate of no objection to part-time work for engineers and employees of engineering offices and consulting houses. This measure aims to prevent engineers and technicians from working part-time for multiple companies, emphasizing the importance of avoiding conflicts of interest and protecting intellectual property in the workplace.
