Vietnam’s PM Pham Minh Chinh to make historic first visit to Kuwait in 16 years.

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 15: At the invitation of H.H. Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, H.E. Mr. Pham Minh Chinh – Prime Minister of Vietnam, his spouse, and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation will make his official visit to the State of Kuwait from 16 to 18 November 2025.

This is the first visit by a Vietnamese Leader to Kuwait after 16 years, taking place at the right time when the two countries are ready to elevate bilateral relations to a new height and preparing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations in January 2026. - During the visit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will meet with H.H. the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and H.H. the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al- Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah; hold official talks with the Kuwaiti Prime Minister, H.H. Sheikh Ahmad Al- Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. Vietnam’s Prime Minister will also receive some key Kuwait Ministers and chairmen, chief executives of top economic corporations, and particularly deliver a keynote speech on Vietnam’s foreign policy and strategic vision of Vietnam–Kuwait relations at the Saud N. Al-Sabah Kuwait Diplomatic Institute. - Vietnam–Kuwait bilateral relations are enjoying substantive mutual cooperation, especially in investment and trade.

Kuwait is the Middle East country having the largest total investment capital in Vietnam so far; the top venture is Nghi Son Refinery Petrochemical (NSRP) complex with Kuwait’s capital contribution of up to 3.5 billion USD. In terms of trade, the total bilateral turnover reached 7.3 billion USD in 2024, which is also the highest level of trade between Vietnam and a country in the Middle East.

Vietnam’s export products to the Kuwait market are becoming increasingly diverse and higher in value, including agricultural and aquatic products, fresh fruits, wooden products, machinery and equipment, electronic products, etc.

In addition, the two countries also maintain other areas of cooperation. The Kuwait Fund for Arabic Economic Development has contributed $182 million to 15 infrastructure projects across Vietnam over the years. At local level, the two countries have signed several memoranda of understanding (Ho Chi Minh City and Ahmadi province, Thanh Hoa province and Farwaniya province), thereby promoting friendship, cultural and tourism exchanges, and people-to-people contacts. - Vietnam is now recognized as a country of innovation and development. The Southeast Asian nation ranks 32nd globally by GDP and is among the top 20 countries for both trade volume and foreign direct investment (FDI). With total trade exceeding $800 billion and foreign capital surpassing $500 billion, Vietnam has become a vital player in the regional and global economy, participating in 17 free trade agreements and over 500 other trade deals. Its GDP growth could reach a higher 8% in 2025 and target more than 10% in 2026.

In foreign affairs, Vietnam has established diplomatic relations with 194 countries, including 38 Comprehensive and/or Strategic Partners - among all the world powers. At the multilateral level, Vietnam is an active member of more than 70 major political, economic, and socio-cultural organizations and is increasingly involved in peacekeeping and humanitarian missions abroad.
