Kuwait's General Administration of Customs has foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of cigarettes through Nuwaiseeb Port after customs officers discovered more than one ton of contraband concealed inside a vehicle using sophisticated hiding methods.
According to Customs, officers from the Nuwaiseeb Port Customs Department became suspicious of the vehicle and carried out a thorough inspection, leading to the discovery of 5,305 cartons of cigarettes.
The cigarettes were hidden inside the vehicle's door panels, floor, front and rear fascias, as well as in specially constructed secret compartments designed to evade detection.
Customs officers confiscated the contraband and impounded the vehicle used in the smuggling attempt. The suspect, along with the seized goods, was referred to the competent authorities to complete legal procedures and investigations in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
The General Administration of Customs reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening inspections at all customs ports and employing both human expertise and advanced technology to combat smuggling in all its forms, protect society, and safeguard the national economy.
