KUWAIT CITY, Mar 21: On the joyous occasion of Eid al-Fitr, Apostolic Nuncio to Kuwait, The Most Reverend Eugene M. Nugent, extended heartfelt greetings and warm congratulations to His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the Government, and the people of the State of Kuwait. In his message, he emphasized gratitude, solidarity, and compassion as central values of the holy celebration, while praying for peace, security, and stability for Kuwait and the wider region amid ongoing challenges.
"On the joyous occasion of Eid al-Fitr, I wish to extend my heartfelt greetings and warmest congratulations to His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah; to His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah; to the Government and the noble people of the State of Kuwait, as well as to all residents of this blessed land.
Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, is a time of thanksgiving, generosity, and renewal. It is a moment when hearts are lifted in gratitude to Almighty God, and when families and communities come together in a spirit of solidarity, compassion, and hope. These values resonate deeply with all believers and serve as a powerful reminder of our shared humanity.
This year, however, we celebrate Eid in the shadow of a very serious and painful conflict that is affecting the wider region. Many families are living with uncertainty, anxiety, and loss. At such a time, our hearts turn all the more fervently to prayer. We ask Almighty God to grant a swift end to the violence and to restore peace to the region.
In a particular way, I wish to express my profound appreciation for the Kuwaiti Armed Forces, the security personnel, and the emergency services, who are working tirelessly and with great dedication to ensure the safety and stability of the country. Their commitment and sacrifice are a source of reassurance and pride for all who live in Kuwait.
In these difficult days, we are reminded of the urgent need for peace—true and lasting peace, founded on justice, mutual respect, and sincere dialogue. As His Holiness Pope Leo XIV has recently said: “There is no future in the logic of arms; only through courageous dialogue and sincere encounter can nations rediscover the path of peace.” These words echo the deep longing of all peoples to move beyond conflict and to build bridges of understanding and reconciliation.
The Catholic Church in Kuwait stands in full solidarity with the State of Kuwait and with all its people. We share in your hopes and your concerns, and we join you in prayer for peace, stability, and harmony. Together with our Muslim brothers and sisters, we believe that God, who is merciful and compassionate, calls us to be instruments of peace in our world.
On this blessed feast of Eid al-Fitr, I pray that Almighty God will shower His abundant blessings upon Kuwait—granting peace to its land, security to its people, and prosperity to all who call it home. May He strengthen the bonds of unity and fraternity among all, and guide the region towards a future marked by reconciliation, dialogue, and lasting peace.
