WASHINGTON, Apr 8: U.S. Vice President JD Vance described the recent ceasefire between the United States and Iran as a “fragile truce,” warning that its success will depend on genuine commitment from both sides.

Speaking at an event in Hungary, Vance said the agreement was being misrepresented within Iran, though he did not provide further details. He added that the deal includes a ceasefire, plans for negotiations, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

“You have people who are lying about even the fragile truce that we’ve already struck,” Vance said.

Vance also said Donald Trump has instructed U.S. negotiators to engage in talks in “good faith,” but warned that the president is “impatient to make progress.”

While noting that the U.S. has “extraordinary economic leverage,” Vance said Trump has directed officials not to deploy those measures for now, prioritising diplomacy.

He cautioned that if Iran fails to engage seriously, it would face consequences, adding that a deal remains possible if negotiations proceed constructively.
