CHENNAI, Mar 14: A van driver was beaten to death by a mob in the early hours of Wednesday after allegedly urinating on a woman from an auto-rickshaw on Prakasam Salai, Broadway.
The deceased has been identified as Kalaiselvan, 30, from Triplicane, who worked as a load van driver. According to police reports, Kalaiselvan and his friend Balaji were travelling in an auto when Kalaiselvan, reportedly intoxicated, urinated from the vehicle, soiling a passing woman’s clothes. An argument ensued between the men and the woman.
Locals who witnessed the incident came to the woman’s defense and attacked Kalaiselvan and Balaji, during which Kalaiselvan fell unconscious and later died. The police have yet to identify or arrest the perpetrators, and the victim’s family has refused to accept his body until the assailants are held accountable.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
