KUWAIT CITY, Feb 8: The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) played a vital role in the 27th Gulf Engineering Forum, with the theme, “Investment Challenges and the Sustainability of Smart Infrastructure Projects.” KISR was involved in managing and contributing to the panel discussion titled “Smart Technologies in the Sustainability of Infrastructure Projects.”
During the session, the representatives of KISR affirmed the need to utilize digital solutions and advanced technologies to improve asset efficiency, mitigate operational risks, and maximize the return on investment, particularly in important sectors like transportation, energy, and airports. Dr. Sheikha Al-Sanad, Director of the Building and Infrastructure Program at KISR, moderated the discussion, whose depth underscored the vital function of the Institute in bridging scientific research with practical application, thereby fostering digital transformation and sustainability within the infrastructure sector.
Dr. Osama Al-Sayegh, a researcher at KISR, highlighted the energy sector’s crucial position as a foundation for the sustainability of smart infrastructure projects. He stressed that integrating energy systems with infrastructure enhances operational efficiency, guarantees service continuity, and promotes the use of sustainable alternatives.
He also advocated for the adoption of smart energy technologies, improved resource efficiency, and their connection to digital systems to boost project resilience and adaptability to future shifts. He confirmed the role of KISR in supporting decision-makers through scientific and applied research, indicating that studies are essential for developing energy policies and strengthening the integration among the transportation, infrastructure and related sub-sectors to achieve the sustainable goals and increase the economic value of national projects.
