RIYADH, Oct 14: The United States has warned its citizens in Saudi Arabia to exercise extreme caution when using airports following recent missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks on airports in the Kingdom.
In a security advisory, the US government urged its citizens to follow national alerts issued by Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense through cellular broadcast notifications.
The advisory also stated that US government employees working in Saudi Arabia must obtain special authorization from the Chief of Mission before using any airport in the Kingdom, following the recent attacks.
Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation has extended the suspension of operations at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh through October 17, according to the advisory.
Meanwhile, King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and King Fahd International Airport in Dammam remain operational, although passengers may face delays and flight cancellations.
The US warned that potential attacks on airports, airspace closures, flight cancellations and other travel disruptions could affect air travel across Saudi Arabia.
US citizens planning to travel through the Kingdom were advised to exercise extreme caution and check their flight departure status directly with their airlines and the relevant airports before travelling.
The advisory comes amid heightened security concerns following the reported missile and UAV attacks on airports in Saudi Arabia.
