WASHINGTON, April 29: The White House has confirmed plans to release a limited number of US passports featuring a portrait of President Donald Trump as part of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence.
The commemorative passports, first reported by Fox News and later confirmed to BBC, will be available to any American citizen applying for a passport during the rollout period in July, subject to limited availability. Officials said the special-edition passports will only be issued through the Washington Passport Agency.
Designs released by the US Department of State show Trump’s portrait set against the text of the Declaration of Independence, alongside the American flag and his signature in gold.
A White House spokesperson described the initiative as part of broader “patriotic” celebrations tied to the nation’s semiquincentennial, saying the new passport offers Americans another way to participate in the milestone anniversary events.
The commemorative passport is among several recent initiatives linking Trump’s image and name to federal projects and national symbols. The United States Mint has announced plans for a gold coin bearing Trump’s likeness, while proposals have also emerged to rename the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and construct a large ceremonial arch in Washington.
The developments have drawn mixed reactions, with critics questioning the expansion of presidential branding across public institutions, while supporters view the measures as part of a broader push to promote national pride during the historic anniversary year.
