WASHINGTON/TEHRAN, July 12: The U.S. military carried out strikes on Iranian missile systems, air defense positions and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) small boats at multiple locations around the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, Axios reported, citing a U.S. official.
According to the report, the strikes targeted military assets near the strategic waterway amid escalating tensions in the region.
Meanwhile, Iran's state-run Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported that missiles launched by what it described as the "enemy" struck the southern island of Qeshm.
IRNA said there were no casualties from the missile strikes but did not provide further details on the extent of the damage or identify the source of the attack.
The reported U.S. strikes and missile impacts on Qeshm come as tensions continue to rise around the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route linking the Persian Gulf to international markets.
