TEHRAN, July 8: Iranian authorities have closed all airports in the southern province of Hormozgan until further notice after overnight strikes damaged infrastructure at Sirik Port, officials said on Wednesday.

Kazem Tavassoli, Director-General of Hormozgan Airports, announced that airports across the province would remain shut indefinitely, without specifying when operations might resume.

Separately, officials said two strikes hit Sirik Port in eastern Hormozgan province during the early hours of Wednesday, causing significant damage to one of the port's floating piers.

According to the Director of Ports and Maritime Affairs in eastern Hormozgan, the strikes occurred at 12:35 a.m. and 1:35 a.m. local time.

The official said the attacks inflicted serious damage on the floating pier, though no casualties were immediately reported.

Sirik Port is located on Iran's southern coastline, east of Bandar Abbas, along the strategically important Gulf region.

The airport closures and port damage come amid escalating military tensions in the region following continued exchanges between Iran and its adversaries.
