TAMPA, Fla., Jul 9: The US military carried out another wave of strikes against Iranian military positions on Wednesday, targeting about 90 sites along Iran's coastline to weaken Tehran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said.
In a statement, CENTCOM said the operation struck air defense systems, coastal surveillance assets, missile and drone storage facilities, naval capabilities, and military logistics infrastructure.
The command said the latest strikes followed operations conducted the previous night and came after Iran allegedly attacked three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
"CENTCOM forces hit approximately 80 Iranian military targets July 7, including more than 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps small boats, to impose heavy costs for Iran violating the ceasefire by attacking three commercial vessels navigating the Strait of Hormuz," the statement said.
The latest operation marks a further escalation in the confrontation between the United States and Iran as tensions continue to rise around the strategic shipping lane.
