US Says Oman Rejects Hormuz Tolls, while Iranian Regime Denies Draft Deal Is Finalized

WASHINGTON/TEHRAN, May 28: The United States said Oman has assured Washington that it has no plans to impose transit tolls on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, while an Iranian media outlet linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) disputed reports that a draft agreement between Tehran and Washington has been finalized.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told reporters that he had spoken with Oman's ambassador and received assurances that Oman does not intend to introduce shipping charges for vessels using the strategic waterway.

The comments come amid growing international attention on the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy supplies and commercial shipping.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards-affiliated Tasnim News Agency cited a source close to the negotiating team as saying that the text of a proposed memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran has neither been finalized nor formally approved.

According to Tasnim, reports by Western media claiming the agreement has been completed are “not true.” The agency also said Iran has not informed the Pakistani mediator involved in the talks that any final text is ready for signing.

The report added that Tehran would notify both the mediator and the public once negotiations are concluded and a final agreement has been reached.

The developments underscore continuing uncertainty surrounding diplomatic efforts to secure a broader understanding between Washington and Tehran amid ongoing regional tensions.
