TAMPA, May 10: More than 20 U.S. warships are currently enforcing the naval blockade against Iran, as American forces intensify efforts to restrict maritime access to Iranian ports, according to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

CENTCOM said its forces have redirected 61 commercial vessels and disabled four others to ensure compliance with the blockade measures imposed on ships entering or leaving Iranian ports.

The blockade, launched in April amid escalating tensions between Washington, Tehran and Israel, is being enforced by a large deployment of U.S. naval assets operating across the Arabian Sea, Gulf of Oman and surrounding waterways.

Recent enforcement actions included U.S. Navy fighter jets disabling multiple Iranian-flagged tankers accused of attempting to breach the blockade. CENTCOM said the vessels were prevented from reaching Iranian ports after ignoring warnings from U.S. forces.
