WASHINGTON, Apr 16: US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that the US Navy is using “less than 10% of America’s naval power” to enforce operations against Iran, stating that 16 warships, including destroyers, an aircraft carrier, and amphibious assault ships, are currently deployed in the Middle East out of a total fleet of about 300 vessels.

Speaking at the Pentagon, Hegseth said Iran is shifting its military assets but is unable to rebuild its capabilities nearly seven weeks into the conflict, claiming the country has lost the ability to sustain its defense industry. He warned that the US is monitoring Iran’s “critical dual-use infrastructure” and energy sector, adding that the situation is “not a fair fight” given American military strength.

He also contrasted public sentiment with media coverage, saying Americans “see the reality” of the situation, though recent polling indicates significant public concern over US military involvement and its economic impact.
