RIYADH, Oct 7 : The US Mission in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday urged American citizens to exercise heightened vigilance amid ongoing hostilities and reported Houthi threats targeting airports and airspace in the Kingdom.

In a security alert, the mission said the Houthis have carried out hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including attacks targeting civilian airports, warning that the military conflict could escalate further.

The US mission cautioned Americans to expect possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and other travel disruptions, advising travelers to check directly with airlines and airports for the latest flight information.

US citizens were also advised to avoid areas near the Yemeni border and follow security alerts and instructions issued by Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense.

The alert said US government employees in Saudi Arabia are prohibited from traveling within 20 miles (32 kilometers) of the Yemeni border without authorization. Special approval is also required for travel to Jizan, Asir and Najran provinces, as well as the cities of Qatif, Yanbu and Taif.

The mission urged Americans to remain alert, avoid demonstrations and large gatherings, monitor local media and comply with instructions from Saudi authorities.

The warning came a day after the UK Embassy in Saudi Arabia issued a similar advisory, saying the Kingdom continued to face missile and drone attacks targeting cities, airports, military installations and energy infrastructure.

The British Embassy urged its nationals to follow instructions from Saudi authorities and subscribe to UK government travel alerts.

The warnings come amid heightened tensions involving Yemen’s Houthi movement and the Saudi-led coalition, with the Houthis claiming attacks against airports and military facilities in Saudi Arabia in recent days.
