TAMPA, May 4: The U.S. Central Command said its forces have sunk six Iranian small boats that were targeting civilian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, amid escalating tensions in the region.
Admiral Brad Cooper, head of CENTCOM, said U.S. military helicopters carried out the operation, successfully neutralizing the threat to commercial shipping. He added that Iran had launched multiple cruise missiles, drones, and small boats toward vessels under U.S. protection, but stressed that “every one” of the threats had been defeated.
The incident marks a fresh test of the fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran, raising concerns over the security of one of the world’s most critical maritime trade routes.
