US Military Claims Early Success in Iran Port Blockade, Seized Ships to Be Moved to Holding Areas

CENTCOM, April 14: The U.S. military has claimed early operational success in enforcing a blockade on Iranian ports, even as at least one vessel reportedly linked to Iran continued transit through the region.

The United States Central Command said that during the first 24 hours of the operation, no ships were able to pass through the blockade, while six merchant vessels complied with instructions to turn back toward Iranian ports in the Gulf of Oman.

However, reports indicate that some tankers initially altered course near the Strait of Hormuz after the operation began, but at least one vessel, identified as Rich Starry, later reversed again and proceeded through the waterway.

Separately, a report by The Wall Street Journal said Iran-linked vessels seized as part of the operation will be transferred to temporary holding areas in the Arabian Sea or Indian Ocean while authorities determine permanent arrangements. The report, citing U.S. officials, added that additional ships are being assessed for possible seizure as part of the ongoing enforcement effort.

The development comes amid heightened tensions in the region as maritime security operations continue in strategic shipping lanes.
