US lawmakers discuss ongoing protests with Iraqi PM

BAGHDAD, Nov 3 (KUNA) — US Lawmakers, headed by the President of US Armed Committee Adam Smith tackled on Sunday with Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdulmehdi the latest developments in Iraq, namely the ongoing protests, and bilateral relations.
A government statement said Abdulmehdi expressed keenness on behalf of the government to have the best relations with the US, its neighboring and regional countries, affirming on the keenness to seriously make the much needed reforms, since its formation.
Abdulmehdi has presented many draft laws that meet the rights and demands of the Iraqi people in reforming the political and economic system and achieving their aspirations for a decent living, the statement said, in addition to the continuous quest to increase employment opportunities and attract investments and provide a safe and stable atmosphere that helps to push the reconstruction and employment of youth.
This is the first US delegation to discuss in Baghdad the popular protests that erupted in the country to demand the overthrow of the government and amend the constitution.
