WASHINGTON, Jun 28: The United States military carried out fresh strikes near the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, according to a U.S. official cited by Axios, marking another escalation in tensions with Iran.
Around the same time, explosions were reported in the southern Iranian city of Sirik, state broadcaster IRIB said, though Iranian authorities did not immediately provide details on the cause or report any casualties.
The latest military action follows U.S. strikes on Iranian missile, drone and radar sites launched in response to what Washington described as Iranian attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil transit route.
There was no immediate official statement from the Pentagon on the latest operation, while Iranian authorities have yet to comment on the reported explosions beyond confirming they were heard in the Sirik area.
