TAMPA, Jul 15: The United States launched a new wave of strikes against Iran on Wednesday, targeting military capabilities that U.S. officials said had been used to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said the operation began at 6 a.m. ET, ( 1 pm Kuwait Time) adding that the strikes were intended to further degrade Iranian military capabilities used in attacks on commercial vessels transiting the strategic waterway.
Separately, Iranian media reported that an explosion was heard in the southern city of Shiraz on Wednesday.
No immediate details were available regarding the cause of the blast, its exact location, or whether there were any casualties.
