WASHINGTON (AP), Apr 7: Prominent voices in the United States have strongly criticized President Donald Trump over his warning that “a whole civilization will die tonight,” calling the rhetoric dangerous and morally unacceptable.
Amy Spitalnick said such language echoes historical calls for the destruction of communities, warning that it exploits Jewish concerns to justify potential war crimes. She emphasized that while Iran’s government poses serious challenges, targeting an entire population is unjustifiable.
Separately, Jason Carter, grandson of former US President Jimmy Carter, described the threat as “un-American” and “un-Christian,” saying it violates fundamental moral principles and could breach both US and international law. He stressed that while Iran’s government has long been an adversary, the Iranian people should not be treated as enemies.
Meanwhile, Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski warned that such rhetoric undermines America’s global standing and could endanger US citizens at home and abroad. She called on all sides, including US and Iranian leaders, to de-escalate tensions before the situation worsens further.
The criticism highlights growing concern within the US over escalating rhetoric as tensions with Iran continue to rise.
