U.S. Intelligence Raised Concerns Over Alleged Israeli Spying on Iran Talks

WASHINGTON, Jun 6: Recent U.S. intelligence assessments reportedly raised concerns that Israeli intelligence agencies may have attempted to monitor American officials involved in negotiations with Iran, according to a report by the The New York Times citing U.S. officials familiar with the matter.

The report alleged that Israel stepped up efforts to gather information on U.S. positions during the talks, including by targeting senior officials such as Steve Witkoff, Elbridge Colby, and Michael DiMino. It further claimed that a recent assessment by the Defense Intelligence Agency elevated the counterintelligence threat level posed by Israel from “high” to “critical,” citing concerns over alleged surveillance activities and reports that software capable of intercepting communications had been detected on the phones of some U.S. defense personnel in Israel.

However, the allegations were strongly disputed. A White House official described the report as false, while a spokesperson for the Embassy of Israel in Washington denied that Israel spies on American officials or institutions. The claims have not been independently verified.
