WASHINGTON, Sep 15 : U.S. forces have redirected 103 commercial vessels as part of efforts to enforce the American maritime blockade against Iran, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said Tuesday.
CENTCOM released an image showing an MH-60 Sea Hawk helicopter taking off from the flight deck of the USS Rafael Peralta in the Arabian Sea as U.S. forces continue maritime operations aimed at ensuring compliance with the blockade.
The latest figure marks an increase from the 94 commercial vessels CENTCOM said had been redirected as of September 7.
CENTCOM has previously said the blockade targets commercial vessels attempting to enter or leave Iranian ports, while vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to or from non-Iranian ports are not intended to be impeded.
