WASHINGTON, Apr 19: US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said negotiations with Iran over maritime tensions in the Strait of Hormuz are progressing positively, suggesting that a potential agreement may be close.
Speaking on Fox News Sunday, Wright said the United States is “not too far away from a deal” and noted that discussions with Iranian officials are continuing despite public tensions.
“There are negotiations with the Iranians going on… I think those are actually going well,” he said.
Wright also described U.S. President Donald Trump as a “creative negotiator” who applies pressure and uncertainty strategically in diplomacy.
Expressing optimism about the outcome, Wright said he expects “a nice end of this conflict” and added that while restoring shipping through the Strait would take time, it would likely not be prolonged once an agreement is reached.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical shipping routes, particularly for global energy supplies.
