U.S. Embassy Warns of Potential Attacks on American-Linked Universities in Iraq

BAGHDAD (AP), Mar 29: The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad issued a warning on Sunday that Iran and allied militias may target universities in Iraq perceived to have links to the United States, including institutions in Baghdad, Sulaymaniyah, and Dohuk.

In a statement posted on X, the embassy said such threats come amid escalating regional tensions, noting that Iran had issued warnings against American-affiliated universities across the Middle East. It added that Iran-backed groups have already carried out widespread attacks against U.S. citizens and interests throughout Iraq.

The statement also criticized the Iraqi government for failing to prevent attacks launched from its territory against U.S. and regional targets, and reiterated its advisory urging American citizens to leave the country.

Amid the growing security concerns, several universities across the region have shifted to online learning following recent U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, which have intensified the ongoing conflict.
