U.S. Embassy in Bahrain Updates Security Guidance, Lifts Shelter Advisory

MANAMA, April 10: The U.S. Embassy in Manama has lifted its shelter-in-place advisory while continuing to urge American citizens in Bahrain to remain alert amid ongoing regional tensions.

In a security update, the embassy said it is closely monitoring developments in the Middle East and will continue to provide information to help U.S. nationals make decisions regarding their safety, including departure options if they choose to leave the region.

The embassy advised Americans to maintain personal security awareness, keep essential supplies such as food, water, and medication, and remain prepared to follow instructions from local authorities in the event of further alerts. It also warned that Iranian government-linked actors and affiliated groups may seek to target U.S. interests.

Routine consular services at the embassy have been suspended, although limited passport and Consular Report of Birth Abroad services remain available by appointment. U.S. citizens in emergencies have been instructed to contact the consular section directly.

Authorities also urged citizens to stay enrolled in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), keep travel documents updated, avoid protests and demonstrations, and comply with Bahraini laws, including restrictions on filming sensitive sites or sharing unverified information.

Emergency contact numbers were also reiterated, including Bahrain emergency services at 999 and U.S. State Department assistance lines.
