TAMPA, Jun 13: U.S. forces intercepted and destroyed multiple Iranian one-way attack drones that were launched toward commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, according to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). The incident occurred as merchant traffic continued to move through the strategic waterway without disruption.
In a statement posted on X, CENTCOM said Iran had launched several attack drones in an apparent attempt to strike commercial ships passing through the strait. The U.S. military said all of the drones were shot down in recent hours and that maritime traffic remained unaffected.
“Iran launched multiple one-way attack drones in an attempt to strike commercial ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. forces have downed all of them in recent hours as traffic flow through the strait continues unimpeded,” CENTCOM said. The command added that “the international trade corridor remains open for transit.”
The incident marks the latest escalation in tensions in and around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important energy shipping routes, even as Washington and Tehran continue diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions.
