US Disables Another Ship Allegedly Attempting to Breach Iran Blockade

TAMPA, May 30: The US military has disabled another merchant vessel accused of attempting to enter an Iranian port in defiance of the American naval blockade, according to a report by The Associated Press on Saturday, citing a US official familiar with the operation.

The official said the Gambia-flagged bulk carrier Lian Star ignored repeated warnings from US forces overnight as it sailed toward an Iranian port.

According to the report, US aircraft intervened in the Gulf of Oman and disabled the vessel, leaving it adrift. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of military operations, said American forces did not board the ship.

The incident marks the latest enforcement action under the US blockade of Iran and brings the number of vessels stopped while attempting to reach Iranian ports to six. One other ship was reportedly allowed to continue its voyage.

The blockade remains a central point of tension between Washington and Tehran amid ongoing efforts to reach a broader agreement over Iran’s nuclear program and regional security issues.

US officials have maintained that the blockade is intended to increase pressure on Iran during negotiations, while Tehran has condemned the measures as unlawful and a threat to international shipping.
