WASHINGTON, Apr 9: The US State Department has strongly condemned the April 7 attack on Kuwait’s consulate in Basra, calling it a serious violation of diplomatic norms and security. In a statement issued Thursday, Washington urged the Iraq government to hold those responsible accountable and dismantle Iran-aligned armed groups believed to be behind the assault.
The incident comes after protesters stormed and vandalized the Kuwaiti consulate amid heightened regional tensions following a deadly rocket attack in southern Iraq.
The US emphasized the need to protect diplomatic missions and prevent further escalation, as international concern grows over increasing militia activity and instability in the region.
