WASHINGTON: The United States has clarified that its ongoing naval blockade is focused on Iran’s ports and coastline, not the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, as American forces intensify enforcement operations across regional waters.
In a statement posted on X, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) is currently transiting the Arabian Sea as part of the operation. The command stressed that “U.S. forces are NOT blockading the Strait of Hormuz,” underscoring efforts to avoid disruption to one of the world’s most critical maritime trade routes.
According to CENTCOM, the operation involves a significant military presence, including more than 10,000 American service members, over a dozen naval vessels, and upwards of 100 aircraft. These forces are actively enforcing the blockade to ensure compliance with the U.S. President’s proclamation targeting Iranian ports and coastal activities.
The clarification comes amid heightened regional tensions, with Washington seeking to balance pressure on Iran while maintaining freedom of navigation and stability in key international shipping lanes.
Meanwhile, at least eight vessels crossed the blockade line in recent days and are heading toward Iranian ports or preparing to load Iranian cargo, according to shipping data.
