US Announces Two-Week Halt in Iran Strikes After Pakistan-Mediated Talks

WASHINGTON, Apr 8: The President of the United States has announced a two-week suspension of bombing and military operations against Iran, following what he described as direct discussions with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army.

According to the statement, the Pakistani leadership requested an immediate halt to ongoing military action, citing the need to de-escalate rapidly deteriorating regional tensions. The pause in operations is reportedly linked to Iran’s agreement to the “full, immediate, and secure opening” of the Strait of Hormuz.

The President said the decision follows what he described as the achievement and surpassing of key military objectives, adding that “significant progress” has been made toward a broader and more comprehensive peace agreement with Iran.

He further stated that a ten-point proposal submitted by Iran is now being considered as a framework for negotiations, and claimed that most major points of contention between Washington and Tehran have already been resolved in principle. The two-week pause, he said, would allow time to finalize and formally ratify a long-term agreement aimed at ensuring regional stability.

Framing the development as a potential turning point, the President said the arrangement could help bring an end to a prolonged period of confrontation in the Middle East, describing it as “an honor” to be close to resolving the crisis.

Neither Iranian officials nor independent mediators have yet publicly confirmed the details of the proposed ceasefire or the status of negotiations.
