LUCERNE, Jun 21: Qatar said high-level talks involving the United States and Iran have begun in Switzerland, with representatives from Qatar and Pakistan also taking part.
According to the Qatari foreign ministry, the Lake Lucerne summit and the first meeting of a high-level committee are aimed at reaching a comprehensive and lasting agreement between Washington and Tehran.
The ministry said the discussions are intended to address all aspects of an earlier memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran.
Qatari foreign ministry spokesperson Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari said specialized technical groups have been formed to negotiate the terms of a final agreement. He added that follow-up groups have also been established to oversee the implementation of the memorandum and track progress.
Al Ansari said Qatar would continue working with Pakistan and the parties involved to help create a positive environment for the talks.
The meetings mark a new stage in diplomatic efforts involving Washington and Tehran, with Qatar and Pakistan playing supporting roles in facilitating dialogue.
