Unstable weather may disrupt Kuwait flights

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 17, (Agencies): The Meteorological Department of the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) has forecasted cloudy and rainy weather throughout Kuwait starting Wednesday evening, with heavy rainfall expected in some areas. The intensity is expected to increase by Thursday afternoon, along with chances of fog and reduced horizontal visibility. Dhirar Al-Ali, the acting Director of the Meteorological Department, told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that weather maps and numerical models indicate the country is under the influence of a surface low-pressure extension from the southwest, gradually deepening and coinciding with an upper-atmosphere low accompanied by a cold and humid air mass. This will lead to the formation of low and medium clouds interspersed with cumulonimbus clouds.

Scattered rain is expected, occasionally accompanied by thunderstorms, with intensity ranging from light to moderate. Rainfall is expected to gradually intensify and may become heavy at times over southern and maritime areas by Thursday afternoon. Showers are forecast to continue until Friday morning, reducing horizontal visibility and causing fog in some areas during evening and morning hours. Winds are expected to be southeast to variable, light to moderate in speed, and occasionally gusty, causing higher sea waves. Maximum temperatures are forecasted between 15°C and 19°C, with minimum temperatures from 7°C to 11°C. Gradual improvement in weather conditions is expected to begin Thursday afternoon.

Al-Ali urged residents to stay updated through the Meteorology Department’s official website, app, and social media platforms. Meanwhile, rainfall recorded on Monday varied throughout the country, with Al-Wafra receiving the highest at 4.2 mm and Al-Abraq Farm the lowest at 0.3 mm. Other areas recorded smaller amounts, including Kuwait International Airport at 1.4 mm, Rabia and Ras Al-Salmiya at 0.6 mm, and Jahra at 0.4 mm.

Due to the expected unstable weather conditions, Kuwait Airways has notified passengers that some flights may be rescheduled from Thursday evening, December 18, to Friday evening, December 19. The airline explained that this precaution is being taken to ensure passenger and aircraft safety. Passengers will receive updates through the contact information provided on their tickets.
