KUWAIT CITY, Nov 16: The head of the Spring Camps Committee at Kuwait Municipality, Faisal Al-Otaibi, announced that camping reservations saw a surge within the first 48 hours of opening, with 760 permits issued across the northern and southern regions.

Al-Otaibi emphasized that renting out camping plots is strictly prohibited under a Municipal Council decision. Any camp found violating this regulation will face penalties, he warned, as such actions contravene established municipal rules.

He also highlighted the municipality’s efforts to regulate the use of buggies, which have been identified as a safety hazard. “The municipality is responsible for removing and penalizing those who rent or use buggies illegally, in addition to confiscating them,” he said. Al-Otaibi noted that the Ministry of Health has reported multiple hospital admissions caused by buggy-related accidents, underscoring the dangers posed to public safety.

Addressing issues encountered in previous years, Al-Otaibi pointed out that discrepancies between the license holder’s name and the person making the reservation have previously caused insurance complications. “In such cases, the concerned party must visit the municipality to resolve the matter,” he explained.

He further stressed that any unlicensed camp is liable for removal by municipal authorities, with owners required to pay both removal fees and fines as determined by the municipality and the General Authority for the Environment.

In a related operation, the Public Hygiene and Road Occupancy Department in Al-Jahra Governorate conducted an inspection campaign targeting street vendors and illegal vehicles in the Al-Subiya and Al-Mutlaa areas. Nawaf Al-Mutairi, director of the department, reported that the operation led to the removal of 94 motorcycles (buggies), six trailers, and one vendor truck, ensuring compliance with safety and municipal regulations.
