‘Union reaches deal with ministry to co-op on recruitment of domestics’

KUWAIT CITY, March 31: The Union of Domestic Labor Offices announced that an agreement has been reached with Ministry of Foreign Affairs to activate cooperation with other countries concerning recruitment of domestic workers, reports Al-Anba daily.

According to Secretary General of the union Ali Shamawoh, this information was revealed during a recent meeting held by the Chairman and members of the union’s board with the Director General of General Department of Residency Affairs Major General Talal Marafie.

Other officials at the meeting were Deputy Director General for Residency Affairs Abdullah Al-Hajeri, Deputy Director General for Domestic Workers Affairs Sakina Gholoum, and Deputy Director General for Legal Affairs Colonel Hamad Al-Tawalah.

He explained that the meeting revolved round the domestic labor market, as well as efforts exerted to ensure availability of the workers and reduce the cost of hiring them.

The union pledged to remain as the link for solving the problems facing workers who are from countries that do not have an embassy in Kuwait. The problem-solving approach will be implemented through cooperation between the union in Kuwait and trade unions in those countries.
