BAGHDAD, Dec 25: The United Nations Compensation Commission (UNCC) will make a resolution to permanently close the file of the financial compensations for Kuwait after Iraq settled the accounts, Kuwait Ambassador to Iraq Salem Al-Zamanan said on Saturday. Since 2003, Kuwait has been supporting Iraq in all fields and alleviating suffering of the displaced persons through building shelters and mobile clinics, Al-Zamanan told KUNA.

He pointed out that Kuwait had previously provided a grant evaluated at USD 100 million to Iraq’s health sector, in addition to pledges worth USD two billion during the International Conference for Reconstruction of Iraq hosted by Kuwait in 2018. Last Tuesday, the Central Bank of Iraq announced the completion of paying the full financial compensation worth USD 52.4 billion to Kuwait. The last remaining payment of Kuwait’s compensation evaluated at USD 44 million has been paid, the bank added. This means that Iraq has paid the full amounts of compensation approved by the UN compensation committee, under the Resolution No. 678 of 1991. (KUNA)
