VIENNA (AP), Apr 6: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said Monday that recent strikes in Iran came dangerously close to the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, with one impact reportedly landing just 75 meters from the site’s perimeter.
In a statement on social media, the IAEA said its analysis indicated that the facility itself had not been damaged as of Sunday. However, Director General Rafael Grossi warned that such incidents pose a “very real danger to nuclear safety” and called for an immediate halt to attacks near nuclear infrastructure.
Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization said the plant has been targeted in four nearby strikes since the start of the conflict on February 28. It added that a recent strike on Saturday killed a security guard and damaged a support building close to the facility.
The Bushehr plant, which relies on low-enriched uranium supplied by Russia and is operated with Russian technical assistance, generates around 1,000 megawatts of electricity for Iran.
